reflection on group presentation

firstly i would like to say how fantastic it was to work with my group members emma, fallon and ruby, and i am so glad we managed to present a great sketch that was funny and informative. there was a little problem with correct slides at right times but prob jus down to lack of consentration because of nerves, especially how we were warned not to go over time. the warning did make us rush through it a little bit quicker but we had already prepared our presentation into two parts the police sketch and discussion time. we knew the topic was hard so there was no point in overwhelming the audience with loads of information so had planned questions to make sure everyone understood what we was saying. we also prepared the power point so that the slides had extra qoutes for anyone that was understanding the basic idea's that we were talking about to keep everyone engaged in our presentation. i think our style was unique and worked well with the topic. the structure was perfect because it flowed we had the outline, effects, solutrions and conclusion meaning everyone had an equal part so we copuld all get marked. the was definatly good group management because we all knew when to speak and interacted well with each other throughout the presentation. and the planned discussion time meant we definatley had audience involvement. so i dont see why we shouldn't get the grade we deserve.

thanx again emma, fallon and ruby for making a presentation so fun we had loads of laughs lol.

REFLECTION ON THE GROUP PRESENTATION (10TH DECEMBER 2009)

Today my group presented our presentation with the topic being 'hate exists because of the code'. It went OK, to be entirely honest i thought it would have went a little better, but we all tried our best to do this presentation. Apart from the fact that we were nearly 45 min delayed in presenting it (as other previous groups ran into overtime on there presentations) there seemed to be a sound malfunction on one of the slides, which was quite disappointing as it would have added an extra touch to the performance. The 'verbal' content that we did only lasted approx 9-10mins leaving adequate time for a discussion at the end of our presentation , leaving time for the audience to ask us any questions regarding the presentation; and allowing us to ask the audience questions in order for us to establish whether they had understood the content of our presentation. The interaction with the audience during discussion time went very well indeed. Was good getting to know all the girls in the group, and hopefully we will achieve a good grade for our presentation.

Presentation review

We have just had our presentation and I think it went okay because we put a lot of time and effort into putting it together and practicing it. We had questions for our audience to make up the time but put these after ‘discussion time’ so it seemed like we had only done a ten minute presentation and had to explain questions were coming up next which took us up to twenty minutes. The reason we chose to half of the presentation as interactive questions time was due to the nature of the topic we chose. I think it paid off to because the audience were still quite puzzled as to the meaning of the Code so we were able to clarify our points through the question time. Although I’m not too keen on having to do presentations it was good to work with Cherelle, Ruby and Fallon.

Progess on Group Presentation

Today's meeting with the group was very constructive, the PowerPoint presentation is about 99.8% near completion, with just a few minor tweaks to adjust before the big day! The sketch that we will be doing is set in a police station, we all take on the role of police officers while we give the audience information on how 'Hate exists because of the Code'. Some of the props have been brought to help us get into character. All the members of the group get on fine, which most definatly helps when organising what content to add to the presentation. All in all i am very happy with the progress made so far and believe we will do well, when we present it on thursday.

Hate and the Code.

Following on from my last blog and as a prelude to our group presentation, I am going to briefly discuss Hate and the Code. The Code produces signs and these signs are what produce hate and fear because by putting everything in to separate boxes with labels it integrates and separates at the same time. The system of representation reduces all meanings, beliefs and sensations into signs so nothing is left as sacred; there is nothing beyond because everything is accounted for in the signs. Examples of hate that arises from sign-types include sexuality, gender and race. More specific examples of sign-type hate can be identified in ‘middle-class’ fear of ‘chavs/hoodies’ and violence amongst football supporters who clash with other teams.

identity crisis?

the code can be clearly seen in the transition from one label the another. teenagers are not children or adults they are inbetween and although the code has created a new label i.e. teenagers they still dont fit firmly in code because there are other patrts of there 'personality' and 'identity' that haven't been classified yet. it is there choice to choose their profession, friendships/relationships, to be the funny girl or sporty boy.they have to force these other elements into the code. all research into teenagers have described a teenagers experiencieng: uncomfortableness; self-consciousness; emotional termoil; coping difficulties, these negative aspects continue. you must remember your adolescent years everyone knows it was a hard time of confusion. and you won't be suprised to know that concept of teenagers is only a western idea just like how the code mainly exists in the west. so of course its going to be hard to be aware code and have to position yourself in it when you are so radicall Other that there is no 'you' or 'I'. in this stage teenagers hate almost everything their is no end to the rage, and this clear link between hate and a label being forced upon us is why the western society is so hateful and uncontrolably violent. the only way to challenge the hate is to not force people to choose there label or be labelled at all. what good is this identity and percieved reality if we can't be free.
say no to I, be the Other
but are we looking at this from the wrong perspective, this time just shows how the hate generates from choosing what box we should be enclosed in, not that we haven't got a label.
